Photo Festival Union inauguration - a great joint success!!!
The Inaugural Meeting of the Photo Festival Union was held on the 29.09.2005 and 30.09.2005 in Lodz, Poland.
During the meeting, the directors and representatives of the members festivals signed the declaration and decided about the plans for the future of the PFU.
Next edition of the Photo Festival Union will be held in Rome, under the directorship of FotoGrafia - International Festival of Photography.
Within first three days few hundred of people visited the exhibition CREATORS OF EUROPEAN PHOTOGRAPHY that accompanied to the meeting. The exhibition consists of the
photographs presented on various festivals. In order to see those photos one would have to visit 15 festivals in 13 countries.

PHOTO FESTIVAL UNION joins the
biggest festivals of photography in Europe. PFU gives it＊s members
a possibility to meet experienced organizers and curators from other
countries, to share experience and new ideas. It is the way of
international promotion as for festivals as for artists. Visit our

The next meeting of PHOTO FESTIVAL UNION＊s members will take place in April 2006 in Rome, during FotoGrafia 每 International Festival.

| AIMS

Photo Festival Union is a new
association for European festivals of photography that will be
established in September 2005. The idea comes from the Foundation of
Visual Education in Poland. The main motivation in establishing the
Union is the exchange of information between associated events.
Furthermore, the association would like to be a point for wide
cooperation within the exhibitions, lectures, publications,
workshops, slide-shows and portfolio reviews program. We want the
common Internet website (www.festivalunion.com) to become a
comprehensive and updated base presenting all of the festivals'
achievements. Every year the PFU members will organize an exhibition
and publish a catalogue that presents all the associated festivals.
The organization consists of about thirty festivals from all over
the continent. |

| THIS
YEAR :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: |

The first meeting of the PFU
members will take place in Lodz, Poland, 29.09-01.10.2005. We will
meet to establish our statue, detailed goals and plans. The first
PFU's exhibition and catalogue will be called CREATORS OF THE
EUROPEAN PHOTOGRAPHY. This year's main concept is that each festival
presents one photographer that for some reason is important or
representative for the national photography. We will have the
opportunity to see works of photographers like Sonya Stankova
(Bulgaria), Trine Sondergaard (Denmark), Marja Pirila (Finland),
Gwenael Saliou (France), Vassilis Karkatselis (Greece), Aristidis
Kontogeorgis (Greece), Adrienne van Eekelen and Michael Botman (The
Netherlands), Vytautas Stanionis Jr and Vytautas Stanionis Sr
(Lithuania), Jerzy Lewczynski (Poland), Pavel Pecha (Slovakia), Imre
Benko (Hungary), Olivio Barbieri (Italy), and more. |

Each
year different country will be a leader of the PFU: the publisher of the
catalogue and the organizer of the exhibition. Mutual cooperation of
experienced curators and festivals＊ organizers shall help to create a
unique series of albums presenting what is the most significant and
interesting in European photography. We are sure that the idea of Photo
Festival Union will last and develop with time.

The idea of The Union of European
Festivals of Photography comes from the Foundation of Visual Education.
Foundation is one of the most important polish organizations interested in
photography and its most significant project is International Festival of
Photography in Lodz which in this year had its 4 edition. The foundation
take also part in regional, national and international events - as
organizing different activities referring to the visual techniques. Among
these activities are: organizing exhibitions, organizing meetings,
conferences, which main goal is to create a link between different
organizations dealing with photography.
